Birmingham Hippodrome is the UK’s most popular single auditorium theatre welcoming, on average, over 500,000 visitors every year.
We offer a mixed programme of nearly 400 performances, featuring touring musicals, world-class ballet and opera, drama and comedy, international dance and the world’s biggest Pantomime. Our space also houses the 200-seat Patrick Centre, extensive events facilities, and a restaurant.
Our resident partners are Birmingham Royal Ballet and DanceXchange, we present all of Welsh National Opera’s repertoire and were founding co-producers of the award-winning International Dance Festival. Alongside The Lowry and Sadler’s Wells we are also proud to be part of The Movement, a dance producing partnership.
As one of the most successful and popular theatres in the world, we are perfectly placed, with our numerous partners, to expand our reach, deepen engagement and make a big difference to people’s lives. Our Hippodrome CREATIVE programme offers outstanding opportunities in schools and colleges and across the community, as well as bringing to life spectacular outdoor events.
Run by a board of voluntary trustees, we are an independent charity with no revenue funding from public sources. We frequently invest in projects alongside Arts Council England and with Birmingham City Council. Generous support is received from the business community through sponsorship and other partnerships; from individuals through donations and memberships; and from grant-making Trusts for special programming and infrastructure projects. As a major employer in the region we also play a leading role in the Southside Business Improvement District.
Our vision is of a vibrant world-class Birmingham arts scene with the Hippodrome centre stage.
